What to expect . . .

In today's frenetic world, the need for rest and relaxation is hugely important and I want to offer all of the things that a busy, modern life takes away from us:  time, space, calm and “You-Time”.  Relaxing the mind and caring for the body as a whole with a range of therapies and treatments which alleviate stress & anxiety, resulting in a feeling of well-being, that fortifies us for the challenges of the weeks to come.

To maximize your experience, I suggest you arrive 10 minutes before your first appointment for a short confidential health consultation, to identify your goals and expectations, and also any potential contraindications.  I will also explain the treatment and answer any questions you may have. Then you receive my undivided attention for your “You-Time”.

Some Frequently Asked Questions . . .

Do I need to undress?
Most massage table treatments are traditionally performed with that particular part of the body unclothed. For a full body massage lower underwear remains on & towels are provided for draping. Only the part of your body being massaged will be undraped, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times.

Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
The practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax on the table and cover yourself with a towel.

Will I be covered during the treatment?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be uncovered.

Will oil be used?
A light non-staining oil may be used to allow the muscle to be worked without causing excessive friction to the skin. If you have any allergies to oil an alternative lotion will be used.

What should I do during the massage session?
Feel free to ask the practitioner questions about massage in general or about the specific treatment you are receiving. Make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). If it's a full body massage just close your eyes and completely relax. Some people like to talk during their massage, but best benefits are experienced if you relax completely into the treatment.

How will I feel after the massage session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling extremely relaxed, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity which can last for days.

Can the elderly benefit from massage?
Massage can be especially helpful for the problems that most people experience as they grow older. Gentle massage can be used to soothe conditions such as muscle stiffness and soreness, loss of flexibility, arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, and help with respiratory disorders. Massage is very comforting as touch is natural and comforting. People of all ages use touch to gain a sense of security and well-being and consequently massage has psychological as well as physical benefits. Elderly people with Alzheimer’s or who have had a stroke and find it hard to communicate verbally benefit greatly from massage. Very frail or modest clients can benefit just as much from a foot, hand or face massage as they might from an all-over body massage. It’s important to make sure that the therapist is told about any medication the elderly client is taking.

What if I have a medical condition?
Prior to your first treatment a full confidential medical history will be taken. On subsequent visits, the practitioner will ask you some general health questions on your current health status. Its very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. Massage of any kind cannot be carried out on clients with the following:
  • Fever
  • Contagious or infectious diseases
  • Under the influence of drugs or alcohol
